I am not a resolution person, but I think having some short term goals is a good thing. I've also heard that writing things down in some public forum will help with personal accountability, so here goes . . .
My aims for this year are not too ambitious:
- Finish the Miwok 100k. I DNF'ed Miwok during my previous attempt in 2009, so this will be a bit of redemption, hopefully. I have an associated goal with this race (May 7th), and that's to get my weight to 195. It's currently at 206 (egad!), up from around 195 when I did Rio Del Lago in September. I really cut loose over the holidays :-(
- Finish my First 100 Miler - the Tahoe Rim Trail 100. You may recall my debacle at the Rio Del Lago. I finished 70 miles of the race but was disqualified after going off trail due to some course vandalism. My second attempt, though on a much tougher course, WILL be successful. Another weight-related target on this race (July 16), to hit 185. I have not been that weight in many years, at least 12-13.
- Learn Spanish. This should be an easy one, being married to a Spaniard and all. Well I have two shelves worth of Spanish textbooks, phrasebooks, dictionaries, software, tapes, CDs, etc. to tell you it has not been. Well, this is the year I break through. I am actually fairly decent with some basic reading and listening comprehension, but I need to get myself speaking.
- Finish More Books. Notice this goal is not to "Read" more books. Just Finish. I am the kind of person who starts about 10 books for each one he finishes. Well, I need to buck that trend, and aim to read more fiction especially. I have just recently started reading a couple of Kurt Vonnegut books (I finished both!) and really enjoy them so I will stay on that route for a bit.
That's it. So, wish me luck, and best of luck with your 2011 goals!
